" Talk about Asiatic representation . "
Word on the street is that Towa Bird’s debut albumAmerican Herois now available to stream worldwide.
The album features 13 tracks, sprinkled with vulnerable storytelling about queer love, relationships, and the exhaustion of paying bills in this economy.
She ’s so real for that .
Bird’s song “FML” is especially adorable and even referencesJennifer’s Body— a film that has become a queer classic since its 2009 release. Speaking with Towa ahead of her debut’s launch, she also recommended a few other pieces of LGBTQIA+ media, includingThe L Word,The Last of UsandOrange Is The New Black.
The L Word’s impact on Bird was so significant that when given the opportunity to meet the cast at Coachella 2024, she was left “sweating and shaking and unable to make eye contact at all.”
“I grew up onThe L Word, those were the first queer people I ever saw,” Towa shared. “There have been very few moments in my life where I’ve actually felt really starstruck, meeting the cast ofThe L Wordwas one of them.”
As for other recommendations, Bird wasspotted at the Gold House Galagiving her suggestion forsong of the summer. “Little Things” by One Direction was the obvious choice.
So, we simply had to find out what her pick was across the ocean in Australia’s winter. TheAmerican Heroartist was firm in her decision: “My song of the winter is going to have to be ‘Like a G6’ by Far East Movement.”
“Talk about Asian representation. Come on lads!”
She also pep up the musical trio to " DM " her if they see her suggestion .
Will we see a Towa Bird x Far East Movement collaboration in the future? We’ll have to wait and see…
For now, you can listen to Towa on her debut albumAmerican Hero— out now!
