Shannen Dohertyhas passed away.
Peopleconfirmed the news that the actor died yesterday after a long and at times public battle with breast cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” her publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed to the publication. “On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
Shannen’s acting career was impressive and varied, stretching across decades of film and TV roles. She was most well known for her performance as Brenda Walsh in the iconic 1990s teen dramaBeverly Hills, 90210.
She also starred in the cult favoriteCharmedfrom 1998 to 2001.
Shannen revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. In 2017, sheannouncedthat she was in remission, but in 2020 she had revealed that the cancer had returned. Last year, Shannensharedthat the disease had spread to her brain.
