Here ’s what a doctor had to say when asked the internet ’s most controversial showering questions .

What ’s the “ correct ” way todraw an x ? AreSour Patch Kids - flavor Oreosdelicious or nasty? Is a frankfurter a sandwich ?   The internet is always felicitous to offer — and deliberate — an solvent for whatever derisory question wo n’t stop rattle around in our head .

But one question finish us in our tracks when we take care it pop up in 2019 and it ’s continued to haunt us since then : Do we really need to wash our leg when we ’re in the shower ?

Countless hoi polloi claim that because the soap from lathering the upper parts of our body trickle down our leg as we bathe , there is no reason to specifically dampen our wooden leg . Others argued that without deliberately see to our stage , they ’re still dirty after we get out of the tub .

So who ’s right ?

That ’s what we — Raj Punjabi and Noah Michelson , host ofHuffPost ’s “ Am I Doing It Wrong ? ” podcast — askedDr . Divya Shokeen , the father ofOcean Skin & Vein Institutein Manhattan Beach , California , when she dropped by the studio apartment to verbalize about all the ways we might be showering ill-timed and how to do it well .

“ I do n’t recall you do [ want to lave them ] , ” Dr. Shokeen told us . “ Unless you ’re , like , sharply sudate and you just biked 20 mile . Then , yes , please wash your legs . ”

That ’s because our peg are often covered by our trouser or other wearable , which protects them from crap and grunge , and they are n’t “ live dapple , ” like the armpits or crotch , where fret and bacteria tend to thrive .

“ I mean urine dripping down or goop drip down [ your legs ] is okay [ for cleansing ] , ” she said , add that it ’s really better not to manually wash away our legs because that keeps the skin from drying out or becoming irritated , which can happen when we cleanse too aggressively and too often .

However , if your legs are visibly dirty or you ’ve been participating in an activity that might have soiled them ( say , swimming in a lake or doing baby goat yoga ) , you should give them a lavation . Otherwise , just let the soapsuds do their thing as they cascade their way down to the drain .

Dr. Shokeen suggested we spend the fourth dimension we ’ll hold open by skipping our legs on those aforementioned hot spots , because we ’re probably not wash them for as long as they should ideally be dampen .

“ Those necessitate at least a instant to allow [ your cleanser ] to work , ” she said . “ That does n’t imply you have to be rubbing down there for a min . If you have the fourth dimension , then do it , but you’re able to froth up [ those region ] and exit it [ while you lave other parts ] , … so your cleansing agent has to have the chance to actually do something . ”

We also chatted about why she never faces the showerhead , the one affair we should all be doing before we get out of the rain shower , and much more .
