" … It was kind of this viral hating - on - masses thing . "
Emma Robertsshared insight into her love life and how nepotism and family fame affect her career.
In a profile withFlauntmagazine, Emma opened up about how the man she’s currently dating might be entertainment-adjacent. This time, unlike her past relationships, he’s not an actor.
“One day, the veil was lifted, and I didn’t want to date actors anymore,” Emma said. “It’s hard, I think, for two actors to be together. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen it done successfully.”
Emma has had several high-profile relationships with actors. In 2012, she had a rather long on-and-off relationship withAmerican Horror StorycostarEvan Peters. After splitting multiple times and getting engaged, the couple split for good in 2019.
“Also, the actors I’ve been with border on method actors, and that is something that I think is extremely difficult to be in a relationship with,” Emma said, adding, “at least for me, especially the characters that they were playing.”
Emma also touched on her family life in the same interview, addressing the conversation surrounding “nepo babies” and famous Hollywood families.
“Should I be offended? It was a cheap shot to put all the celebrity kids on the cover of a magazine on babies' bodies,” Emma said, referring toNew Yorkmagazine’sexposéon nepotism in Hollywood.
If you didn’t know, Emma’s dad is actor Eric Roberts.
His sister and Emma’s aunt is Academy Award-winning actorJulia Roberts.
“It’s like maybe the ‘Nepo Baby’ conversation would’ve been a more interesting article written intelligently in Vanity Fair with nuance,” Emma said. “But instead, it was kind of this viral hating-on-people thing.”
According to Emma, her relationship with Julia and Eric has made her career more challenging. “I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the business,” she said.
“People have opinions and sometimes maybe they’re not good opinions of people in your family,” she explains. “I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it.”
