For context,21 Jump Streetcame out in 2012 and starred Channing and Jonah as two undercover police officers sent to infiltrate a drug ring at a high school.
Two years later, Channing and Jonah returned for22 Jump Street, which proved even more successful than the first film. The 2014 sequel brought in over$330 million worldwideand, at the time, earned thesecond-highest openingfor an R-rated comedy ever.
After the second movie’s success,23 Jump Streetwasquickly greenlit by Sonyin September 2014. A few months later, theSony email hackrevealed that the third movie looked set to be a crossover with theMen in Blackfranchise, also owned by Sony.
As we know,23 Jump Streetnever saw the light of day. And now, a decade since it was greenlit, Channing has shared some hints about what could’ve been.
“There is a project that was written, and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie,” the 44-year-old said in an interview withComicBookpublished this week.
After revealing that he’d “been trying” to get the third movie off the ground, Channing emphasized that he’s still entirely on board with the prospect — and so’s Jonah.
“You know what, I’m going to put some good juju out there and I’m going to say I would love to see23 Jump Street,” he told the outlet. “I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah I know wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again.”
Jonah has taken a step back from the public eye in recent years. In August 2022, the actor revealed that he’dno longer promote his moviesto protect his mental health, and less than a year later, his ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady accused him ofbeing emotionally abusiveduring their relationship.
Since hislast movie appearancein 2023, Jonah has maintained a very low profile. He is set to return to directing with his upcoming comedy,Outcome, which will starCameron Diaz,Keanu Reeves, and Matt Bomer.
