Simone will become one of only a few American women gymnasts to vie in three Olympics .

1.On Sunday,Simone Bilesqualified for the 2024 Olympics women’s gymnastics team.

2.She won the all-around title at the trials, which began Thursday and were held at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

3.Simone will attend her third Olympics, following appearances at the 2016 event in Rio de Janeiro and the 2020 event (held in 2021) in Tokyo. She hasseven Olympic medalsin total and has won gold four times.

4.She’s one of five gymnasts who’ll comprise the US women’s team later this month in Paris.

5.She’s joined by her 2020 teammates Suni Lee and Jordan Chiles, as well as athletes Hezly Rivera and Jade Carey. Jade competed as an individual in 2016.

6.In a post-competition interview on Sunday withNBC, she credited “being in a good mental spot” and seeing her therapist weekly with getting her to the trials.

7.Simone, who is 27 years old, is set to become the country’s oldest female gymnast to compete at the Olympics since the 1950s.

8.“I knew I wasn’t done after the performances in Tokyo. So just getting back in the gym and working hard and trusting the process with [coaches] Cécile and Laurent [Landi], I knew I’d be back,” she told NBC.

9.Simone soon will join anelite group of American women gymnaststo compete in three Olympics.

10.They are Murial Grossfeld in the ’50s and ’60s, Linda Metheny in the ’60s and ’70s, and Dominique Dawes in the ’90s and 2000.

11.Simone shared her reaction on Twitter to securing a spot on this year’s team,writing, “WE ARE GOING TO PARIS.”
