Anne Hathaway recently said she ’s five years sober : " That feels like a milepost to me . "

The decision to get sober is a profoundly personal one. These 13 celebs went public about their sobriety and the reasoning behind it.

Please note : This list includes fame who say they buzz off sober because of addiction , as well as those who said they did so as a modus vivendi selection .

1.Last year, Cara Delevingne toldVogueshe began a 12-step program in 2022 and now practices sobriety.

At the Met Gala earlier this month, she toldVarietywhen asked what she’d tell someone struggling with getting sober, “You’re not alone. If I can do it, anyone can. You need to communicate and be honest about it as much as you can, especially with yourself.”

2.In April, Anne Hathaway revealed she’s five years sober. “I don’t normally talk about it, but I am over five years sober. That feels like a milestone to me,” she told theNew York Times.

According toEntertainment Tonight, she previously opened up in a 2019 interview withModern Luxuryabout not wanting to drink while raising her two children. “I didn’t put [a drink] down because my drinking was a problem; I put it down because the way I drink leads me to have hangovers and those were the problem. My last hangover lasted for five days,” she reportedly told the publication.

3.In April, Eminem shareda photo on Instagramof himself holding a 16-year sobriety medallion in his palm.

A few years earlier, in 2020, Eminem celebrated 12 years of sobriety by posting aphoto of his 12-year medallion on Twitter, saying, “Clean dozen, in the books! I’m not afraid.”

4.In a November Instagram Story, Jessica Simpsoncelebratedsix years of sobriety by sharing apost from 2021that featured a photo of herself at the moment a few years prior when she decided to stop drinking and “allow [herself] to take back [her] light, show victory over [her] internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.”

The singer and businesswoman also discussed her sobriety in her 2017 memoirOpen Bookand a 2023 interview withBustle. In the interview, she said not helping get her kids ready to trick-or-treat one Halloween was a rock-bottom moment. So was her creativity being “dumbed down” by alcohol. “I stopped drinking because I was like, I can’t even make a dream board,” she told the publication. “For me to see it, I have to un-numb and go through therapy and unlock the light because it’s not there right now.”

5.In February, Jamie Lee Curtisshared on Instagramthat she’s 25 years “clean and sober.” The post featured a photo of the actor holding a 25-year sobriety medallion.

“One day at a time. 9,125 of them. What’s inside, as my old friend Adam sang, is a sense of calm, serenity, purpose and the greatest feeling that I am not alone. That many others share the same disease and solution,” she wrote. “For all those struggling with addiction and shame, there are others out here who care. My hand in yours. Our hands in yours. XO JLC.”

6.Blac Chyna celebrated one year of sobriety in September with apost on Instagram.

“I made up my mind on 27 April 2025 that I was done with the alcohol,” she wrote, in part. “This process is not easy but I did it, [and] I plan on continuing practicing sobriety.”

7.RuPaul has been sobersince 1999. As he recounts in his memoirThe House of Hidden Meanings, the performer realized he needed to get sober while attending a 12-step meeting to support his partner Georges LeBar. “It felt like a fantastical trick had been played on me. Georges was the one in rehab. And yet I was also hitting rock bottom,” he wrote in an excerpt published inTime.

In a March interview withPeople, RuPaul said his sobriety means looking for “a balance and equilibrium” in his life. “And when you’re stoned, it’s harder to keep a balance,” he said, noting he found the “middle ground” through “meditation and prayer.”

8.According toVariety, Bradley Cooper said on an episode ofRunning Wild With Bear Gryllslast year that he’s “lucky” to have gotten sober at 29.

“I got sober at 29 years old, and I’ve been sober for 19 years. I’ve been very lucky,” he said, before explaining that his sobriety “made it easier” to play a musician who struggled with addiction in the 2018 filmA Star Is Born. “It made it easier to be able to really enter in there. And thank goodness I was at a place in my life where I was at ease with all of that, so I could really let myself go.”

9.Kyle Richards’s sobriety was a focal point of the most recent season ofThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. According toBravo, she said in the season premiere, “It’s been seven-and-a-half months now that I have not had one drop of alcohol. I just really felt like alcohol wasn’t serving me. I wanted to do whatever it took to make me feel better physically and spiritually.”

Kyle celebrated her one-year anniversary of abstaining from alcohol with apost on Instagramin July, noting she didn’t have a “problem” with drinking but felt “better” and more “clear” without consuming alcohol. “Alcohol made me feel depressed the next day no matter how fun the night before was,” she wrote, in part. “And honestly, life is going to throw us some difficult days. I certainly don’t need to be adding any extra ones to that list.”

10.In July, Bella Hadidshared on Instagramthat she was “almost 10 months [with] no alcohol!”

She wrote, in part, “I’m so proud of anyone discovering their sobriety. Or anyone who has had the courage to open their mind to Dry July.”

11.Naomi Campbell detailed her sobriety in last year’s Apple TV+ documentary,The Super Models,noting that she’s struggled to deal with grief in her life.

“When you try to cover something up, your feelings…” she said in a segment of the documentary that discussed the grief she experienced from not knowing her father and dealing with the death of designer Gianni Versace who died in 1997. “You spoke about abandonment. I tried to cover that with something. You can’t cover it. I was killing myself. It was very hurtful. For my mistakes, I’ve always owned up to them. I chose to go to rehab. It was one of the best and only things I could have done for myself at that time.”

12.Margo Price stopped drinking after her alcohol consumption “ramped up” in the pandemic, she told theNew Yorkerin August.

Earlier, in January of last year, Margo toldRolling Stoneshe made the “incredibly clear-headed” decision to stop drinking. “The clarity, the energy that I have, I’m honestly just more in tune with my brain — with my spirituality — than I have been in a long time. My skin looks better than ever. I don’t even really work out. I’ve reverse-aged,” she said.

13.Finally, in November, Margaret Cho shared onThe Osbournespodcast that she’s seven years sober.

“I spent a lot of time on it this time. I didn’t really get it the last [few] times around,” she said, after noting she has been sober for periods of time since 1996. “It’s a constantly evolving project, your mental health and your well-being. It’s an ongoing, living work of art that you have to keep applying yourself to.”
