SinceHouse of the Dragonstarted airing, it’s no secret that it has made people excited for theGame of Thronesuniverse once again. I mean, c’mon, there are dragons!
Now, sinceHouse of the Dragontakes place roughly 200 years before the events ofGame of Thrones, in a period of civil war between the Targaryen family, it’s no surprise that a lot of people know what happens to our beloved characters from this new prequel series.
That being said, if you go back and watchGame of Thrones, you can actually pick out references to the time period that is depicted inHouse of the Dragon.
So, that being said, here are just 11 timesHouse of the Dragoncharacters, moments, and more are referenced inGame of Thrones:

1.First, during Season 5, Shireen Baratheon tells Ser Davos Seaworth about how she’s reading a story about The Dance of Dragons, aka the civil war between Rhaenyra and Aegon II Targaryen.
2.Shireen tells Davos about how Ser Byron Swann, who we haven’t met yet inHouse of the Dragon, wanted to kill Vhagar, who is currently ridden by Aemond Targaryen.
3.Shireen also tells her father, Stannis Baratheon, that she’s reading about Rhaenyra and Aegon II Targaryen and how their conflict divided the Seven Kingdoms with people taking sides and dragons fighting dragons.
4.In the same conversation, Stannis asks Shireen which side in The Dance of Dragons war she would’ve chosen,Team Black or Team Green, and she says neither.
5.In Season 3, Joffrey Baratheon tours Margaery Tyrell around the Red Keep and actually references Rhaenyra Targaryen. He laughs at the story of how Rhaenyra was eventually killed.
6.In Season 7, while standing in the dragon pit, Daenerys Targaryen references how this is where the “end” of her family began, which is a nod to the dragon pit being the place where Aegon II was crowned as king following Viserys’s death.
7.In Season 2, Tywin Lannister talks about how Harrenhal was known as “the greatest fortress ever built” until “dragons happened,” and he mentions how Harren and his sons were burned alive inside. InHouse of the Dragon, Harrenhal is also where Harwin Strong is killed.
8.When Tywin tells Arya Stark that everyone alive still speaks of Aegon, she corrects him and mentions his sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya Targaryen.
9.Arya mentions how Visenya Targaryen wielded a Valyrian steel sword named Dark Sister. InHouse of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen gifts Rhaenyra a pendant made out of Valyrian steel, which Rhaenyra remarks is like Dark Sister.
10.In Season 1 ofGame of Thrones,Daenerys asks why there are no more dragons in the world, and she’s told how dragons haven’t been seen for decades. This is in part due to the events ofHouse of the Dragonand how a majority of them died during this conflict and afterwards.
11.And finally, in Season 3, Viserys Targaryen mentions how the skulls of the most notable dragons, like Meraxes, Vhagar, etc., used to decorate the throne room in the Red Keep.
